Better Health, Better Lives Aims

People with learning disabilities are more likely to experience ill health than the general population and can have difficulty accessing healthcare. The Government’s Valuing People Now strategy makes ‘Better Health’ for people with learning disabilities one of its top priorities and its key message is that ‘Health is Everyone’s Business’..

With Health and Social Care Services working together, they can ensure that people with learning disabilities receive the help and support they need to access good healthcare and live healthier lives.

Better Health, Better Lives E-Learning Objectives

Better Health, Better Lives e-learning is designed to give frontline Health and Social Care staff an awareness of how better to support the health needs of people with learning disabilities. It aims to provide a basic understanding of:

  • Some common health issues experienced by people with learning disabilities
  • Access to healthcare for people with learning disabilities
  • Supporting the health needs of people with learning disabilities in the community
